My Top 5 Mistakes When I Started Earning Online (And What I Learned)

When I started looking for ways to earn online after matric, I made a lot of mistakes. I thought it would be easy, but I quickly learned that it takes time, effort, and the right approach.

In this blog, I want to share the top 5 mistakes I made during my early online journey — and the lessons I learned so you can avoid the same.

1. I Trusted Fake Websites Too Quickly

In the beginning, I joined many websites that promised to pay for watching ads, clicking buttons, or filling fake surveys. I wasted hours and got nothing in return.

What I learned:
Always research before joining a website. If a site asks for money to join or sounds too good to be true, it’s probably a scam.

2. I Gave Up Too Quickly

I expected to earn dollars in just a few days. When I didn’t see results, I got disappointed and gave up for some time.

What I learned:
Online earning is like planting a seed — it needs patience, care, and consistency. Now I understand that success comes slowly, not instantly.

3. I Tried Too Many Platforms at Once

I was working on surveys, blogging, freelancing, YouTube… all at the same time! I didn’t focus properly on any one of them.

What I learned:
It’s better to master one skill or platform first. Once you’re confident and earning from it, then move on to the next.

4. I Didn’t Improve My Skills

At first, I thought just signing up on websites would make me money. But I didn’t work on improving my writing, typing, or communication skills.

What I learned:
Skills are the real power in the online world. Now, I focus on learning daily through YouTube, blogs, and practice.

5. I Didn’t Stay Consistent

Some days I worked hard, and some days I did nothing. That inconsistency slowed my progress a lot.

What I learned:
Even 1 hour of focused work daily is better than random efforts. Now, I try to stay regular and make a schedule for my tasks.

✅ Final Thoughts

Mistakes are part of every beginner’s journey. The important thing is to learn from them and not repeat them. I’m still learning, still growing, and now I’m seeing better results than before.

If you’re just starting out, take my advice: start small, stay consistent, and never stop learning. Your success will come — just don’t quit.
